Program Overview
- Application Deadline: September 29, 2024, at 11:59 PM SAST.
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 21 years old at the time of application.
- Limited Travel Experience: Individuals with limited travel experience are encouraged to apply.
- Financial Background: Preference will be given to those from disadvantaged backgrounds with a family household income of under R120,000.
- Residency: Fellows must be able to reside in Johannesburg, South Africa full-time.
- Availability: Availability for five days a week is compulsory.
- Physical Attendance: Fellows must physically attend the program.
- Location: The program will take place in Jo’burg, South Africa.
- Number of Awards: Five outstanding young leaders will be selected.

- Global Citizen will support scholars in professional and personal development.
- Fellows will gain a deeper understanding of complex social issues.
- They will be prepared to become advocates of social change.
- Activities will focus on professional development, personal growth, advocacy, cultural exposure, social justice, and equity.
- After completion, fellows will receive letters of recommendation and stay connected with other fellow alumni.
Application Process
- Video or Essay: Applicants should submit a 2-3 minute video or a 500-700 word essay addressing the following questions:
- What qualities do you identify with as an active citizen of the world?
- If selected, what lasting change would you like to achieve through the program?
- Which specific socio-economic issues are you taking action on, and why?
- Letter of Recommendation: Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher/professor, school administrator, community leader, or colleague. The recommendation should highlight the applicant’s motivation, ability to work in a team, and potential to be an agent of change.
