The Republic of Croatia is inviting applications for the 2024 Bilateral Scholarships for Foreign Students. This scholarship program is designed to support students who wish to gain additional professional experience in Croatian higher education or research institutions.

The Bilateral Scholarships are open for study or research in any field during the granted mobility period at an accredited public Croatian higher education or research institution. The number of awards and the nationality of the applicants are not specified.
Eligibility criteria
- To qualify for the Croatia Bilateral Scholarships 2024, applicants must
- Be at least 18 years old at the start of their study in Croatia.
- The age limit is 30 years for candidates applying for Scholarships for BA, MA, and PhD studies.
- Those interested in research, a Ph.D., or a postdoctoral Scholarship, should find a host professor (mentor) in Croatia willing to support and supervise their research or PhD project.
- The application package must include a Letter of Invitation from the mentor. Applicants should contact a mentor/supervisor at the desired Croatian host institution to arrange their visit. Candidates applying for a research visit should be fluent in English or Croatian.
Benefit
The scholarship benefits vary depending on the level of study.
For undergraduate/graduate studies (A1, A2, B),
- the scholarship provides 300,00 EUR monthly financial support (excluding July and August),
- subsidized accommodation in student residence halls, and
- subsidized meals at student restaurants.
Full Ph.D. studies and partial Ph.D. studies or research for Ph.D. students (C1, C2),
- the scholarship provides 320,00 EUR monthly financial support (excluding July and August),
- subsidized accommodation in student residence halls, and
- subsidized meals at student restaurants.
Postdoctoral studies or research 1 – 10 months (D),
- the scholarship provides 480,00 EUR monthly financial support and subsidized accommodation in student residence halls.
Short research stays 3 – 14 days (E),
- the scholarship provides 30,00 EUR per diem and
- subsidized accommodation in student residence halls.
For the summer seminar (F),
- the scholarship provides a tuition-free course,
- free accommodation and meals, and
- a cultural program.

Application Pool 1: Scholarships Based on Bilateral Agreements
This pool is open to citizens of countries (and territories) that have a valid/effective educational cooperation program with Croatia or a bilateral agreement signed by the Croatian Government and the relevant ministry of the given country (or territory).
The preliminary selection of applications is usually performed by the respective foreign government ministries, agencies, and/or authorities and applications ranked by these offices take priority.
Countries whose citizens may apply based on a valid/effective educational co-operation program and/or a bilateral agreement include Belgium (Flanders), Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Germany (Bavaria), Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Turkey and Ukraine.
Application Pool 2: Scholarships for Croatian Language Students
This pool is specifically for students interested in studying the Croatian language. The details about this pool are not specified in the search results.
Please note that the scholarships can be awarded only to the candidates who are nominated by the foreign partner institutions, i.e., national competent authorities responsible for the implementation of the Bilateral Scholarships Programmes
